Yesterday, a legend left this life for another. Toni Morrison used her voice to hold people accountable for the ways of the world, and in doing so she created space for true love and authentic beauty. Her words have and will continue to hold great power, because they hold great truths.
All through 2019, our collective consciousness has been leveling up. The fact that we need truth like air is only becoming more relevant.
During this period, our own shortcomings have been illuminated across the world stage. This is because we are holding ourselves and others fully accountable for our words and our actions. When we do this, we dismantle illusions and we all get closer to experiencing the same reality.
All great things in life start with you. You may not control what is happening around you, but you always have the power to control the way you choose to react and respond. We can’t be perfect, but we can always be better. It’s okay to accept responsibility when you aren’t living up to your highest self.
How do you respond to accountability? When you’re called out, does it frustrate you? Do you feel attacked? How do you hold others accountable? Do you create and maintain healthy boundaries? Do you hold others to the same standards that you hold yourself?
Accountability can trigger strong reactions because when you are being held accountable, by yourself or another, you are experiencing one of the highest forms of love. The love that it requires to hold someone accountable is derived from a capacity to be better. This is what is offered to us through accountability. A chance to be better.
Check in with yourself often to make sure that you are living the life you desire. Don’t hold yourself back or cut yourself short. True love comes in many forms, and you deserve it all.
