These lemon-ginger shots are the perfect daily detox boost. They are our signature shot here at I & I - mostly because ginger is super accessible and fresh in Boston right now. Ginger is great for reducing nausea and healing muscle pains and inflammation. Lemon is chock full of nourishing vitamins and minerals, and the cayenne helps with digestion. The maple syrup is mostly for taste, but also contains antioxidants and can help reduce inflammation.
Even if you don't have a juicer, you can make these shots pretty easily. All you need is a lemon, a couple inches of ginger, some maple syrup and a dash of cayenne pepper.
If you have a juicer, juice equal parts lemon and ginger. My shots are about two ounces each, so you want at least one small lemon and an inch of ginger for that. If you don't have a juicer, grate the ginger or place it in the food processor to grind it up, and then squeeze the juice through a strainer or cheesecloth. Juice the lemon by squeezing it, and be sure to strain it to get rid of pulp and seeds.
Prepare the shot by pouring a little maple syrup into your shot glass, just enough to lightly coat the bottom of the glass. Pour in the strained juices, and top with a dash of cayenne pepper. Stir or shake it up, and pour it back!
